Research proposal abstract
The amount of revision of partial knee replacement (PKR) remains relatively large. Previous studies show that patient characteristics, as well as characteristics of the hospital (absolute and proportional volume) have an influence on revision rates. The objective of this study is to understand the number, percentage and reasons for revision of PKR into total knee replacement (TKR). Using LROI data we will investigate which factors (such as PKR volume of the hospital, reasons for revisions) are associated with high or low amount of PKR revisions. From the LROI database revision (any insertion, removal or replacement) from medial and lateral PKR into TKR from 2014 onwards will be included. In addition, hospital characteristics will be used: the PKR volumes, and whether revisions are done in the same hospital as primary surgery, type of hospital. Finally, reasons for revision, prosthesis characteristics (fixed vs. mobile bearing, use of patella), patient characteristics (BMI, gender, ASA etc.).
