Global trends in demographics, indications and outcomes of radial head replacement: a review of national registries

Starting date: January 1st 2026

What does the research involve?
The number of radial head replacement procedures is gradually increasing; however, there is limited information available about the demographics, indications and outcomes of radial head replacement at an international level. With the aim of developing a better understanding of these aspects and potential variation between countries, we are now seeking to engage with international joint replacement registries through an online international survey.

It is anticipated that through this comparison, we will be able to describe international practices in radial head arthroplasty, including similarities and variations in practices, clinical characteristics and outcomes. It will help contextualise the patient populations undergoing radial head arthroplasty around the world and may also lead to future collaborative registry research projects.

We are inviting stakeholders from international joint replacement registries to contribute anonymised aggregate data related to the indications, demographics and outcomes of radial head replacement, as well as summary information about their registry and its data collection procedures. Participants will be invited to contribute these data through the online survey. Participation in the survey is optional. After study completion, a summary of the results will be shared with all participants and we will invite co-authorship of the arising manuscript publication.

We will use the REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) application hosted by Helix at Monash University for this survey as it stores all data securely and is HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act – USA) compliant with Helix providing an extra level of oversight and support for researchers using the platform.
