Research proposal abstract:
As the global population is aging and the treatment techniques are improving, the number of femoral neck fracture patients treated with hemiarthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty are increasing. Both the Netherlands and Switzerland are known for their high standard of quality of hip fracture surgery. Evaluation of revision rates and mortality might give insight in previously unknown factors of influence for outcome of hip fracture care. A comparison of two national joint registries will be performed. The Swiss National Hip and Knee Joint Registry (SIRIS) has collected data from 2012 till 2024. The Dutch Arthroplasty Register (LROI) has collected data from 2007 till 2024. Femoral neck fracture patients treated between 2012-2023 with hemiarthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty in Switzerland and the Netherlands are included. The data sets of the two registries will be compared, no linkage will be conducted. The primary outcome is revision rate, and the secondary outcome of this study is mortality of patients treated with hip arthroplasty after femoral neck fractures.
